California Geriatrics Society, accepting today's challenges by
implementing tomorrow's solutions...
California Geriatrics Society, founded in 2001 by a multi-disciplinary
group involved in eldercare, came together as the California
Chapter of the American Geriatrics Society. This was during the
same year that well respected universities, UC Berkley and UCLA
filed a joint report which announced, "Forty years from now, the
state [CA] will have 172 percent more adults over age 65 than it
does now and 200 percent more adults over 85..."
The year of 2001 would be the year that members of California
Geriatrics Society took action to commit their resources and
address current and anticipated issues in aging, along side those
already receiving attention, such as Wellness and Injury Prevention,
Medical Ethics in Aging, and the implications of DNA damage and
functional impairment (as studied by the National Institute of
Environmental Health Sciences).
The progress of the American Geriatrics Society and its California
